Podiatry Advice: How to treat Flat Feet

What are Flat Feet?

Did you know that about 20-30% of the population generally has flat feet?

The condition of Flatfoot is due to underdeveloped growth in the arches of your feet which results in depressed feet where the sole of the foot is almost completely touching the ground.

In most cases flat feet are not serious and do not need treatment, they shouldn't get in the way of your daily exercises either but getting a check up can help free up any potential worries.

In more serious cases patients can often injure their feet or ankles and may experience balance problems in which case we recommend booking an appointment with Absolute Foot Care for expert podiatry advice.

Conditions Caused by Flat Feet:

If you have flat feet you may already find it a struggle to run or walk due to the stress on your ankles. In some cases the alignment of your legs can be disrupted due to the inward movement of your ankles which can cause major discomfort. If you are experiencing any problems occurring in the knee area you may find that flat feet will be a contributor to arthritis in that area.

Symptoms of Flat Feet:

  • Discomfort and or pain around the heel or arch area

  • Swelling on the inside of the ankle

  • Unable to stand on tiptoes

  • Feet look flat on one or both feet

  • Shoes feel uneven when worn
